Description
Just like children's flip cards with the animated cartoons, SideTrack™ creates moving pictures by rapidly exposing a series of
individual images that flow into each other creating fluid motion. Imagine taking a piece of film from a movie projector and placing
it horizontally on the wall - and using the same principle, instead of the film moving, the audience is moving past the images using
the darkness of the tunnels as the projector's shutter. The mind's persistence of vision is what creates motion imagery. A SideTrack™
installation will expose the audience to images at a rate where this "persistence of vision" sets in; the mind blends the images and
creates the motion. This is also the shutter speed of a typical movie projection in a cinema.
How It Works
The motion of the train breaks an infra-red beam and starts the system. A series of graphic panels mounted on the tunnel walls are
illuminated by lights synchronized with the train speed. The synchronized speed and light animates the series of images creating true
"motion picture" advertising.
The SideTrack™ system is presented to the audience in a "panoramic" format, a video wall per se, such that all riders have the
ability to see the images. The graphic images are placed in the optimum viewing position for all in-carriage passengers and will be
bright and viewable from all locations and sight angles. The size of the individual frame that one would focus upon is, at a minimum
similar to the size of a 32' television monitor or greater. These will appear lined up edge to edge for the complete length of the
car. The imagery presented can last as long as necessary but likely no less than 10 seconds. The running time of an advertisement
will depend upon the tunnel length, where the train "cruises" versus accelerates and decelerates. A television advertisement is
normally 15 or 30 seconds in duration. The system is designed with aspect ratios that facilitate the use of material already developed
for television or film.
